Maktab After-School Program for Kids (Grades 3-8)

Qalam Academy’s Maktab After-School Program is an in-person program for students in grades 3-8 focused on Qur’an, Islamic studies, and character development, taught by teachers who connect with students and help them grow in both knowledge and confidence.

Classes meet every Monday to Wednesday, 5:00–7:00 PM at the Qalam Campus.

Registration launching on January 23.

Daily Islamic Practice

Children will be immersed in an environment where daily practice is at the heart of learning. Our curriculum encourages consistent engagement, empowering children to embody their faith with confidence and devotion.

Intimate Class Setting

Maktab serves as a foundational step in a child’s Qur’an journey, building the skills, habits, and love needed for continued study. This foundation prepares students for further Qur’an learning at Qalam, including part-time and full-time Hifdh programs.

Love for the Faith

We aim to instill a solid foundation of Islamic knowledge and spiritual growth while nurturing a genuine love for faith. A memorable love that children can carry with them throughout their life, insha’Allah.

Program Structure:

This program is designed for students who are beginning their Qur’an reading journey and benefit from consistent, in-person instruction to build strong reading skills and fluency.

  • Islamic Studies (Mon/Tues/Wed)

    • Islamic Studies classes provide students with structured instruction in foundational Islamic knowledge such as aqidah, fiqh, seerah, tafsir, stories of Prophets, and Islamic manners. Classes are taught by teachers who connect with students and present material in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.

    • Covering a broad range of topics including:

      • Fiqh of Tahara and Salah

      • Seerah

      • Prophet Stories

      • Qur’an stories & Tafsir

      • Lives of the Sahabah

  • Qur’an (Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs*):

    • Qur’an class is taught in a group setting with individual reading time built in. Groups are intentionally mixed and are not assigned by age or reading level. This allows students to benefit from a shared learning environment while still receiving individualized instruction. Students rotate reading one-on-one with the teacher, receive feedback and practice support, and spend dedicated time memorizing short surahs and duas.

      • Qāʿidah, fluency development, and foundational Qur’an reading skills

      • Memorization of daily duʿāʾs and short surahs

      • Qur’anic vocabulary

*Optional Thursdays requires registration at the beginning of the year for an additional fee of $500 for the year and is non-refundable. Requests to add-on after registration deadline will be honored based on availability and in order of wait list.

Our goal is to help students build strong Qur’an reading skills while introducing them to essential Islamic knowledge in a structured and nurturing environment. This program also serves as a foundation for those who may want to transition into part-time or full-time Hifdh.

While we incorporate short surah memorization, our focus is developing reading fluency. If you are interested in a program that focuses on memorization, please consider applying for the Part-Time Hifdh and Full-Time Hifdh programs.

Registration launching on January 23rd insha’Allah!
