The Associates Program

Adult Education

The Associates Program provides individuals with a firm Islamic foundation through nurturing personal growth, providing comprehensive knowledge, and empowering students to deepen their understanding of Islam for practical implementation in their daily lives through a traditional framework. 

This Certificate is offered both in-person and online. There is no Arabic prerequisite.

Students may only enroll in one or more courses without enrolling in the full program.

Five Areas of Study

Doctrines of Faith: The principles of faith, encompassing the essentials of ʿaqīdah that constitutes as the heart of the Islamic faith.

Scripture: An in-depth exploration of the primary sources of Islamic guidance, namely the Qurʾan and the Sunnah through the Prophetic traditions (ḥadīth). Emphasizing the importance of studying tafsīr (Qurʾanic exegesis) and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s tradition to gain a comprehensive understanding of Islam and its practical application in daily life.

Foundations: An in-depth exploration of the origins and sources of knowledge and scripture (waḥy) in Islam. Students will delve in the academic and technical framework of extracting and comprehending information from Islamic sources. They will also study the foundational disciplines of the principles of Islam jurisprudence (Usūl al-Fiqh), principles of Hadith (Usūl al-Ḥadīth) and sciences of the Qurʾan (ʿUlūm al-Qurʾan) to understand the methodology, history and principles used in the deriving Islamic rulings, authenticate Prophetic traditions and navigating the Quran.

History: A captivating journey into the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We will explore the major events and milestones that shaped his life, from his birth in Makkah, to prophethood and death in Madinah. Through a comprehensive study, students will gain a profound understanding of the biography (sīrah) of the Prophet ﷺ and his invaluable teachings.

Application: The practical application of the foundations of Islamic law in the day-to-day life of a believer, while also emphasizing personal spiritual development.

With our 1-hour class blocks, once a week, we ensure a balanced and manageable learning schedule for everyone - college students, young professionals, parents, and the elderly.

Interactive Teaching Styles

Our classes employ interactive teaching styles, utilizing a combination of traditional books adapted to each class’s requirements, powerpoint presentations, and a hybrid online and onsite learning model.

Earn Your Certification

After the successful completion of all courses and assessments students will receive the Foundations Associates Program certificate of completion.

  • FIQH-101: The Roots of Islamic Law

    • Course Description: This course delves into the foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence, exploring the historical development and social, religious influences shaping the major legal schools. Students will learn about the primary sources of Islamic law and develop a basic understanding of the principles used by jurists to interpret and understand legal, religious texts such as the Qur’an and Sunnah. The overall objective of this course is for students to appreciate the wisdom behind Islamic legal rulings, appreciate the depth of our scholarly tradition, and feel empowered in their faith practices in their current context.

  • QUR-101: Fiqh of Worship: Purification and Prayer

    • Day/Time: Monday, 8:30pm - 9:30pm

    • Course Description: This course explores the essential aspects of Islamic worship as outlined in the five pillars of Islam. Students will specifically study ritual purification (taharah) and obligatory prayers (salah) with an emphasis on the Hanafi school of law, with additional insights from the Shafi’i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools. Students will be introduced to the textual evidence behind these rulings and feel empowered to perform these acts of worship with a renewed sense of confidence, clarity, and connection.

  • QUR-102: From the Cradle to Migration: Makkan Seerah

    • Day/Time: Tuesdays, 8:00 - 9:00pm 

    • Instructors: Ust. Ameen Almallah 

    • Course Description: This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Makkan period of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) life, from his birth to the migration to Medina. Students will study the historical, social, and spiritual contexts of early Islam, gaining insights into the challenges and triumphs of the early Muslim community. Through this journey, students will develop a deeper appreciation of the Prophet’s mission and get a glance at the best of mankind. The primary objective is to learn about the Prophet (peace be upon him) in order to increase in love for him, and emulate him.

  • QUR-201: An Overview of Qur’anic Sciences

    • Course Description: This course is an introduction to the Sciences pertaining to the Qur’an which aims to create a foundational understanding of the Qur’an’s historicity and authenticity. Students will learn about the Quran's revelation process, its miraculous preservation throughout history, and the undeniable proofs of its divine origin. Students will also become familiar with the overview of principles that scholars use in order to study the Qur’an, cultivating an appreciation for traditional Islamic scholarship as well as a deep, personal connection to the miraculous words of Allah.

  • QUR-202: Final Words: A Journey Through the 30th Juz - Part 1

    • Course Description: Embark on a journey of a newfound connection and reflection of the most often recited portion of the entire Quran- Juz Amma. In this course, students will be guided through a nuanced translation with in-depth commentary, understanding the backdrop of each chapter, all the while uncovering the spiritual and practical guidance it offers. By the end of the course, students will be able to gain a greater appreciation of Quranic Arabic, recognize the vocabulary of each chapter, understand the historical and spiritual context of the revelation, appreciate the interconnectedness of each surah and develop the skill of reflecting while extracting practical guidance from this oft recited portion of the Qur’an.

  • HDTH-101: Forty Hadith of Imam Nawawi: A Journey in Prophetic Wisdom

    • Course Description: This course delves into the core of Prophetic wisdom and guidance encapsulated in Imam Nawawi’s Forty Hadith, a collection of narrations that capture the fundamental principles of Islam.  Through this study, students will nurture their faith, deepen their religious understanding, and increase their love for the Prophet (peace be upon him), learning how to embody his wisdom in contemporary times. The course will expose students to important narrators, facilitate comprehension of high frequency vocabulary and Prophetic expressions, and build contemporary relevance by connecting the narrations to modern day issues in individual and communal settings.
