These eight courses form the foundation of Islamic literacy at Qalam Academy and are offered across the Fall and Spring semesters.

Together, they provide students with a structured introduction to the essential disciplines of the Islamic sciences.

Fiqh-102: Purification & Prayer

  • Days/Times: Mondays, 8:30 - 9:30 PM CT

  • Instructor: Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda and Ustadha Fatima Lette

  • Course Description: This course covers the rules of ritual purification (taharah) and obligatory prayer (salah) in a clear, accessible way, including what is required, what is recommended, and how to navigate common real-life situations. Whether filling gaps or starting fresh, students will gain the clarity and confidence every Muslim needs in their worship.

QUR-202: Living with the Qur’an: Selected Surahs

  • Days/Times: Mondays, 8:00 - 9:00 PM CT

  • Instructors: Ustadh Naeem Baig

  • Course Description: This course takes students through a selection of key surahs, exploring their meanings, themes, and relevance to daily life. Through accessible explanation and guided reflection, students will begin building a meaningful relationship with the Book of Allah.

HIST-101: Seerah: From the Cradle to Migration

  • Days/Times: Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:30 PM CT

  • Instructor: Ustadh Ameen Almallah

  • Course Description: This course covers the Makkan period of the Prophet's life, from his birth through the migration to Madinah. Students will explore the first revelations, the early opposition, and the companions who stood firm, walking away with deeper love for the Prophet and a desire to follow his example.

HDTH-101: 40 Hadith: Foundations of Practice

  • Days/Times: Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:00 PM CT

  • Instructors: Ustadha Khadeejah Bari and Br Muneer Zuhurudeen

  • Course Description: Shah Waliullah's 40 Hadith brings together a carefully selected collection of prophetic narrations that speak to the spiritual and communal dimensions of Islamic life. This course takes students through each hadith, drawing out practical lessons and connecting them to life as a Muslim community. By the end, students will have a grounded understanding of core Islamic principles rooted in the prophetic tradition.
